NYC Salon #47: Photonics and Optical Computing
May 2, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
In this talk, you’ll learn about photonics: the manipulation of light to encode information. Mitchell Nahmias will discuss the science behind light’s unique and bizarre properties and how exploiting it has led to everything from telecommunication systems to the Internet. He will also discuss breakthrough technologies that have allowed photonic systems to be printed onto microchips. Mitch will conclude with a foray into his own research: how photonics can augment artificial intelligence and create neurons that run a billion times faster than our own.
Mitch is currently a Ph. D. student at Princeton University.
