UX Prototyping Mini Hackathon Featuring Nonprofit Clients

October 20, 2016 @ 1:15 pm - 4:30 pm

$10

What is the UX Prototyping Mini Hackathon?

UX mini hackathons are short one-evening events featuring nonprofits / social good organizations that provide problems that can be addressed with design and technology. Attendees collaborate in teams, brainstorm and prototype their solutions and then present back to the organizations. Teams are provided with feedback from clients and mentors and win various nominations (and prizes, if available).

Who should attend?

Those who want to improve their UX/prototyping skills by helping a nonprofit: UX and UI designers, product designers, researchers, product people, developers, aspiring UX professionals and other tech people who want to make an impact, meet new people, learn and advance their UX skills in a team environment.

What if I am a nonprofit that wants to be a UX client?

If you’re interested in being considered for this or future UX hackathons, please send an email to nate@goodnik.org with details about your organization, including what your impact area is (i.e. what’s your “cause”), how long you’ve been operating, and how many paid employees you have.

What will the format be like?

  • Nonprofits and social good organizations are invited and requested to provide a problem that they would like help with where design and technology can help (design brief is usually shared with attendees one-two days in advance)
  • During the 3 hour hackathon, the teams will be able to put together a basic idea and prototype of their solution – Teams will have the opportunity to present their solution to the nonprofit(s) and UX mentors and get feedback
  • The winning team, and others interested might continue working on the project, if they would like

Important: What you will need:

  • Bring your laptop for this.! 😉
  • You need to know how to use a design/prototyping tool (any tools of your choice will work: i.e. Sketch, Adobe Suite (design), InVision, Marvel or Principle for Mac, Pixate, Axure, or at least POP or Balsamiq
